CBD Frequently Asked Questions

CBD FAQ

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the Cannabis sativa plant.  CBD is the primary cannabinoid in the Hemp plant, unlike Marijuana which has THC as the primary cannabinoid.  Both Hemp and Marijuana come with over 100 other cannabinoids that are non-psychoactive (won’t get you high) such as CBD, CBG, or CBC.

Many medical professionals have even begun recommending CBD to help patients cope with various health conditions such as epilepsy, seizures, focus, and mood elevation. You can buy CBD in various different forms, including CBD tinctures, CBD gel caps and pills, CBD topical products and more.

There is evidence that CBD by itself does a poor job attaching to the human endocannabinoid system, which is why it is important to have traces of other entourage cannabinoids such as CBG, CBC and CBN.  Glee ensures that both, our full spectrum and broad-spectrum products have as much entourage cannabinoids as possible.  The full spectrum products, regardless of brand or product, have a more effective phytocannabinoid profile than broad spectrum.  Broad-spectrum products, while without THC, will be more effective than isolate CBD.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Marijuana is high in the psychoactive compound THC, or delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, the compound in marijuana that causes a high. Marijuana is considered to be a “drug” and is considered a Class I controlled substance by the United States federal government. It is, however, beginning to be legalized for medical and recreational use by a number of states.  Hemp, unlike marijuana, has negligible amounts of THC and is completely legal in the United States. In order to legally sell CBD Oil, it must contain less than 0.3% THC.  All Glee products are hemp-derived and meet the maximum allowable THC standards as set by the US Government.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are a class of volatile hydrocarbon compounds produced in the flower clusters of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are what give cannabis its distinct aromas and have been utilized by humans for millennia in aromatherapy. Terpenes are recognized as safe for human consumption by the Food and Drug Administration and are used in a wide variety of food and cosmetic products.

Glee unflavored products have a slight but unbitter cannabis taste.

What is a CBD tincture?

A CBD tincture is a preparation made from CBD oil or Phytocannabinoid oil combined with  carrier oil such as MCT, hemp seed, or vegetable glycerin. It is used orally (swallowed) and can also be used in cooking or baking.

Glee uses organic-certified coconut MCT oil as a carrier to hemp-derived phytocannabinoid oil.

Is it possible to take too much CBD?

CBD is non-toxic. We have never heard of anyone overdosing on CBD. However, extremely large servings of CBD may cause drowsiness.  CBD is also an anti-inflammatory and blood thinner, so elderly individuals should be cautious taking too much, especially combined with other prescription mediations.

What makes CBD oil quality?

Many people correlate quality with price, meaning, the higher the price, the better the quality. In the CBD world, this is not necessarily the case. Instead, high priced CBD is usually directly correlated to marketing and overhead costs. So, if price is not an indicator of quality, what is?

  1. Third-party lab results. All CBD should come with a COA (Certificate of Analysis) which is provided by a third party and will tell you exactly what is and isn’t in your product.
  2. Taste.  Is it bitter? Does it have an bad after taste? If so, that is just plant chlorophyls and lipids which add no value to your CBD.
  3. Phytocannabinoid Profile.  Make sure your CBD oil comes with entrourage phytocannabinoids like CBG and CBC.  Avoid CBD isolate.
  4. USA Grown. USA Processed: Buy hemp that is domestically sourced
  5. Avoid “Hemp Seed Oil.” – this is not CBD
What is CBD used for and what are the benefits of CBD?

CBD along with its entourage phytocannabinoids are used in both daily health routines and chronic conditions such as epilepsy and seizures.  It is important to note that CBD isolate, without its entourage phytocannabinoids, is not as effective in attaching to the human endocannabinoid systems.  Full and broad spectrum CBD products are used to:

  • gain a sense of calm*
  • increase focus*
  • improve mood and anger management*
  • support sleep health*
  • relief stress and anxiety*
  • help recovery from inflammation pain*

Glee products are made from full spectrum or broad spectrum (without THC) phytocannabinoid oil.  Both types of phytocannabinoid oils are full of entourage cannabinoids, however full spectrum products are the most effective.

Since this CBD or other phytocannabinoids are classified as supplements and therefore not regulated by the FDA, none of these claims can be made yet.  However the FDA acknowledges its benefits and is working towards getting better information out to the public.  More can be found out on the U.S. FDA page here.

What is the difference between Hemp Oil and Phytocannaboid (CBD) oil?

There’s so much confusion between these terms. Some people refer to “hemp oil” when speaking about hemp seed oil while others use it as shorthand to refer to an oil that carries CBD (cannabidiol) extract.  To be clear, oil from hemp seeds is primarily composed of dietary fats, which means it can provide benefits for skin, but does not include all of the same plant compounds (such as CBD). These phytocannabinoids —  CBD, among others – are not found in the seeds, but instead, found naturally in the leaves and flowers (also known as “aerial parts”) of hemp. In order to extract the phytocannabinoids used in full and broad spectrum CBD products, a fully grown plant must be processed.

What is the right dosage for me?

Picking a dosage is very individual and dependant on weight, condition, and your endocannabinoid system.  Because of this variability, we can only guide you in selecting a starting point, but you need to adjust accordingly.  Talk to your doctor before taking CBD if you don’t feel comfortable.

Will CBD get you high?

Nope! The cannabis plant is made up of 2 main players: THC and CBD. CBD is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant, which means it won’t get you high.  You will not get high from Full Spectrum tinctures if you maintain recommended daily dosages.

What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate CBD?

Full Spectrum – contains many other cannabinoids and terpenes that combine to create an entourage effect of compounded benefits. Full spectrum products contain very tiny amounts of THC (less than 0.3% by law), which is a key component in helping the other phytocannabinoidslike CBD attach to your endocannabinoid systems CB1 and CB2 receptors, making them way more effective.

We always recommend buying Glee Full Spectrum (<0.3% THC) CBD Oil over Glee Broad Spectrum (No THC) CBD Oil because while the trace amount of THC will NOT give you a high feeling if adhering to normal dosages, THC is crucial to working in harmony with the other cannabinoids (CBD, CBC, CBG and hundreds of others) to create what is called the Entourage Effect. While Broad Spectrum is slightly less effective than Full Spectrum Oil, it is superior to CBD isolate-based oil tinctures.

Broad Spectrum – processed to contain absolutely no THC, making it naturally less effective within your body’s ECS (endocannabinoid system).

Broad Spectrum Oil should be ordered: 1) if you are concerned about a drug test, there is a slight chance that the trace amounts of THC in Full Spectrum will show up, and 2) for personal or religious reasons, cannot consume THC.

Isolate – It is just what it sounds like: pure CBD, stripped of all other chemical compounds. The removal of these compounds means no entourage effect.

GLEE FAQ

What kind of testing/analysis is performed on your products?

Each of our products undergo 3rd party lab testing three times during the lifecycle of making a CBD end-product such as a gel or an oil tincture.

  1. Glee 3rd party tests the raw hemp we receive from our partner hemp farmers for pesticides, heavy metals, mold and mildew.
  2. Glee performs a full-panel 3rd party lab test on the Phytocannabinoid oil we process. The full panel test includes pesticides, potency, heavy metals, microbial, microtoxins and solvents.
  3. Glee 3rd party lab tests each batch of end-product for accurate potency readings prior to selling. You are able to see the end batch testing results here.
What type of CBD ingredient do you use?

We create distillate from industrial hemp that we receive from our partner hemp-farmers. From there, we create either Full Spectrum Phytocannabinoid Oil or Broad Spectrum Phytocannabinoid Oil. Broad Spectrum Oil starts as Full Spectrum, and undergoes a THC remediation process in order to make it Broad Spectrum (THC free).

What type of carrier oil do you use in your oil tinctures?

Glee uses organic-certified MCT oil as carrier oil, combined with CBD Phytocannabinoid Distillate Oil. MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil is usually made from coconut or palm kernel oil, and has smaller molecules than in most other fats, making it easier to digest and quicker to absorb into your bloodstream.

Healthy

    1. MCT oil supplements can increase overall energy levels
    2. MCT oil can help improve brain function
    3. MCT oil can help with maintaining healthy weight because it increases the body’s release of leptin and peptide YY, which are two hormones that make individuals feel full after they eat
    4. Studies have indicated MCT oil can positively impact several heart disease factors, with one of the biggest ones being high cholesterol.
    5. MCT oil can help lower blood sugar levels

Better carrier oil

Due to its smaller molecular structure, MCT is more digested and absorbed more easily by the human body. When used as a carrier for CBD, MCT provides greater bioavailability. When cannabinoids breakdown, they are stored in fat, which means they are best administered with fat to increase absorption.

Will Glee products show up on a drug test?

It depends. If purchasing Glee Broad-Spectrum Oil, it will not show up on a drug test because we completely remove THC and CBN molecules, both of which show up as THC-positive on a drug test. However, since Full Spectrum does contain trace amounts of THC (<0.3% as required by law), there is a small chance that it could show up on a drug test.
